Modern-day
tourism
It soon became evident that it was necessary to promote a new type of Italian and summer tourism, no longer focused just on health and entertainment but also on the sports and fun that the water and the sun could offer on the lake. It was only in the post-war era that the number of foreign tourists, especially Germans, started to increase again together with many new tourists from the neighbouring cities and even from other Italian cities, following the modern trend of holidays organised according to the rules of mass tourism. Soon, tourism on Lake Garda, which until then had been confined to few places, spread across the entire coast. Garda became one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. It is no wonder that tourists love the enchanting landscapes of the road sections of Via Gardesana with its sub-Mediterranean vegetation, its rocks and its charming glimpses of the blue sky.
