The Park
The Upper Garda Park covers an area of some 38,000 hectares and it is distinguished by its strongly contrasting environments in terms of altitude, from 65m at the lake to almost 2000m of the highest mountains, clime and vegetation, from mediterranean maquis to subalpine rupiculous endemisms. lnstituted in 1989 the Brescian Upper Garda Park spreads over the entire territory of the Mountain Community, including the nine local authority areas, from Salò to Limone. The Park, which is intended as the main instrument for a continuous activity of Upper Garda territory planning, has the fundamental aim of researching new behaviour able to harmonize the anthropological development with the conservation of nature. The Regional Forest of Western Garda extends over more than 11,000 hectares of mainly mountainous territory, within the hinterland of the Park. lt is the most vast government owned forest in the Lombardy region. Nearly totally at 600 metres above sea level, it holds an enormous variety of forestry formations, managed by the Regional Forestry Service.
